A Suggestion of the Simple Verification Method for New Speech Materials
Noh He-Il

Chae Sa-Yong
Abstract
Objectives: Researchers tried to find out an easy verification (validation) method for new speech materials. The logic of this study was that an ideal speech material should show test results which are predictable by the pure tone threshold and the slope of the audiogram. Also the correlations between the subjective discomforts reported by the patients should be high.

Subjects and Methods : Acoustically and phonemically balanced Korean monosyllabic word lists were used to test speech discrimination score and the test results were grouped according to the pure tone threshold and the slope of the audiogram. The relation between the self reported discomfort score and the discrimination score were analyzed.

Results: Discrimination score were statistically different among the group according to hearing level and the slope of audiogram. The correlation coefficient between the discrimination score and discomfort score was -0.78.

Conclusion: This verification method showed that the new speech material represented the effect of hearing level and the slope of pure tone audiogram. It also was simple to use and informative as a user standpoint.
